Effective August 16, 2021 at 5:45 pm., the District of Lillooet has been placed on EVACUATION ALERT.
This EVACUATION ALERT is a notification of the potential danger due to the McKay Creek Wildfire. This serves to notify residents of the potential for loss of life/property from the wildfire. Be prepared to leave this area with very short notice should the situation escalate to an Evacuation Order.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO EVACUATE AT THIS TIME.
The affected area covers the entire District of Lillooet. This ALERT may be followed by an “EVACUATION ORDER” whereby you must leave your home immediately. The RCMP will enforce the Order to Evacuate.
What you should consider now:
Locate all family members and designate a safe meeting place, should an evacuation be called while separated. Prepare to transport any disabled persons and/or children.
Gather essential items for at least a 72 hour duration. This includes personal identification, seasonally appropriate clothing, medications, eye glasses, valuable papers (eg: insurance), and immediate care needs for dependants. Pack water and food. Have these items readily available for quick departure. If time, pack up keepsakes.
Have a plan for pets and livestock.
Consider how you will transport your household members in the event of an evacuation order.
If possible, arrange accommodation for you and your family.
In the event of an evacuation, emergency shelters will be provided if required.
